Took a little over an hour from Cape Town, but it was very easy to find. The 5 km overland route to the destination was a bit difficult, but it was worth it! Beautiful area, very quiet and an incredible variety of birds. Very nice place to relax by the river and for kids to run around. The highlight was the neighboring farm where you could visit lions, cheetahs, zebras etc., which we could also touch and stroke. The house was very well furnished, nothing was missing. It was a bit chilly to swim at the end of September, but the kids still dared and had fun. Incredible service relationship.

The description on the website is nowhere close how much it actually has to offer and so much thanks to the amazing hosts. Even going in the heart of winter was fantastic!

“We can't say enough good things about Colleen's top cottage and the farm. Highly highly recommended. We loved the location, the facilities at the cottage (including access to lovely relaxed barbecue space with loungers and a fire pit overlooking the valley) and the picnic space at the river. Great place for families with young children. We will dubbeltjie be back!”

We loved our time at Swaynekloof in the Top Cottage. All your senses were telling us that we were in country/bush. Our windows looked out over green hills and trees which swarmed with birds. We heard Lions roaring at night from the farm next door.. Peacocks strolled by and a zebra came past our cottage much to my dog’s delight. The air was clean and had the faint smell of the lavender bushes around our cottage.
We did two 6km hikes in the fenced off game reserve section of the farm, where we saw zebra and springbok. The Erlans stayed elusive and we see that as a sign that we have to go back. We did however find the old toll gate build by Van Der Stel, for travelers from CT to Franschoek, on our second walk.
Establishment response.
Thank you so much for the superb review, we are just so happy you enjoyed the farm as much as we do. Please come again soon!

Pristinely nestled on the Botrivier mountain slopes, one will find a farm sporting magnificent scenery and and a variety of colourful bird-life. Your hosts could not be any nicer - Colleen and Peter go out of their way to make you feel "at home". The cottages are fully kitted out and even have a fan and heater should the Mother City weather sneak around the abounding hills. The Farm is built on a beautiful nature reserve which houses various species of wildlife. We stayed in the River Cottage and would love to try one of the other cottages next time. I'm just sorry we could not stay longer.

We had such an absolutely wonderful weekend at your beautiful farm and loved every minute of being there and we hope you’ll let us come back. The children had a full weekend of outdoor fun with minimal interference from us, which is fantastically good for them and so restful for us. I could have sat and watched the birds all day and in fact that’s pretty much what I did :)

Lions roaring, birds singing, cosy cabin. The river cabin is really comfy and secluded and was perfect for us. The river was unfortunately not running as it would in winter but that didn’t detract from the lovely stay we had in the cabin. We were already talking about returning in the winter months when everything will be green and ‘rivery’. Colleen and Peter were great too! Can’t go wrong with staying here.
